About US
South Jersey ROOTS is a cross-movement hub for organizing, capacity-building, and community-led direct action. We work with grassroots organizations and community members across South Jersey to advance social, economic, and political justice.
Through strategic support, technical assistance, and coalition-building, we help organizations transform ideas into effective campaigns, programs, and policy wins.
Our network spans local organizations across the lower nine counties, from Camden to Cape May, connecting groups working on community care, immigrant rights, civic engagement, and more.
What ROOTS STANDS FOR
AT SJ ROOTS, each facet of our work is designed to build community power in our shared fight for social, economic, and political justice. This is what ROOTS means to us:
We work with South Jersey residents to reclaim narratives and tell the stories of their communities, lived experiences, and visions for a liberated future.
RECLAMATION
We advance strategic mobilization around the most pressing issues in our communities, helping residents show up, tell their stories, and advance the infrastructure to sustain the fight for self-determination and self-sufficiency.
OUTREACH
We engage with communities where they’re at to build a diverse, cross-movement base fighting for a just and equitable South Jersey.
ORGANIZING
Together, we’re imagining systems that allow for grassroots movements to be at the center of the conversation.
TRANSFORMATION
We promote the power of unity and strength in numbers. Our collective struggles for freedom are intertwined, and we are committed to expansive solidarity and the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
